It does make me wonder what kind of world our children will inherit. Will there be enough Nature left to inspire and intrigue them, and excite them, as it excites me today? Or will it all just get mowed under in the end?

What is Photojournalism?

Photojournalism is a story-telling medium, mostly; one that combines images and writing to more thoroughly explore a given subject. There has always been hot debate about what is right and what is wrong at the interface of news reporting and photography, but that is a special case of photojournalism. Not all photojournalism falls into that category by any stretch.

The Digital Workflow

There are rules, you see. Not just anyone can be a digital photographer. You cannot care about clothes and nice furniture and fancy cars and dinners out if you want to be a digital photographer. It used to be that you could tell a real photographer by their smelly photo vest. Now the measure is the number of cables in their pockets and whether they shoot in (the) raw or not.

Size is Not Everything!

Everything is changing in the digital domain, even as we speak; except for the fact that the most popular demand for images is still for 8×10 prints or smaller. Very few of us shooters need our output to be at 24×30 inches or larger.

Are You (gasp) a Generic Shooter?

You are not going to find this written anywhere, especially in nature photography publications, but here it is anyway.
Diversify! Your gear is generic; it will photograph anything that you want to photograph. Just point your lens at a given subject and, voila! Your camera will do your bidding.
